Manufacturing Engineering / Maintenance Manager

Bonfire Recruitment are retained in the recruitment of a Manufacturing Maintenance Manager for its significant and growing food manufacturing client near Wigan, UK.

This unique opportunity is ideally suited for an experienced manufacturing Maintenance Leader, Engineering Manager with manufacturing experience or a Senior Manufacturing Maintenance Engineer with significant supervisory and projects experience preferably within a regulatory manufacturing environment.

The purpose of this exciting maintenance management opportunity is to facilitate the organisations production operation goals and achievement of factory KPIs through the application of engineering and maintenance principles, the development of the engineering and maintenance workforce and the appropriate application of engineering technology within this sizeable regulated site.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Organise and plan the maintenance activities so that the assets are maintained safely and cost effectively meeting agreed production performance
  • Assist in the preparation of Engineering Budgets in accordance with Company guidelines.  Manage engineering functional cost elements and workflow to achieve budget targets. Define spares use and availability requirements.
  • Responsible for scope & deliverables on all capital projects, in accordance with individual project requirements.
  • Responsible for plant, services, process maintenance, performance and long term development
  • Continuously review and improve plants performance. Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve factory equipment reliability and efficiency using the tools available.  Develop and manage agreed engineering projects and ensure completion to time and budget, ensuring minimal disruption to the production units.
  • Promote health and safety awareness and compliance by Company staff and contractors and ensure appropriate risk assessments and working systems are in place.
  • Ensure that all relevant activities in area of responsibility are in compliance with statutory and company technical, quality, food safety and hygiene requirements. Where nominated, undertake Duty Holder Responsibilities.
    Recruit, train and manage direct engineering reports to effectively and safely deliver their objectives. In addition, to work with Shift managers to identify and deliver technical training support for Operators.
  • Cultivate a working environment of pro-activity, participation and learning through application of a leadership style with the Company principles at its core.
  • Optimise the use of external resources and contract suppliers, to assist in the achievement of factory KPIs, whilst ensuring full compliance with Company purchasing and contract management rules.


Candidate Requirements :

  • Minimum 5 years practical engineering experience and management.
  • Food factory / Regulated production / manufacturing experience essential.
  • Degree or NVQ 4 equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Time Served
  • Strong people management experience.
  • Great interpersonal, organisational skills and ability to prioritise work load
  • Good attention to detail
