You should also make sure you have as much detail as possible about your skills and experience on your profile, as recruiters tend to ignore candidates who don’t have enough information. It is also a good idea to let recruiters know you are actively looking. You can put something like ‘currently available for new opportunities’ on your headline. You should use this with caution though, if you’re currently employed.

 

Make important connections

LinkedIn’s search facility allows you to find key people within organisations, such as recruiters and directors and you can use this to make important connections. As well as being a good way to network with people in your industry, you can also use it to set up meetings and you never know, you might find some new opportunities as a result. It is a good idea to use as many resources as possible, such as job boards and a specialist recruiter. However, there is no harm in being pro-active with your job search too.

LinkedIn also has a very useful search facility, where you can use hashtags to locate jobs. You will find that a lot of recruiters post updates about new opportunities and you can use this search facility to find these vacancies. For example, if you are looking for a civil engineering job, you can search #civilengineer, click on posts and you will find updates which mention these keywords. You will find that most of these will be about job opportunities.

 

Job board

There is also a job board on LinkedIn, where recruiters can post new opportunities. You can search by job title, keyword or company and any relevant roles will be listed.

 

Preparation for interviews

If you have been invited to an interview, it is important to conduct as much research as possible. LinkedIn can be a useful tool for interview preparation, as you can find out more about your interviewers and you may find some details which can help you to build rapport during the interview. For example, they may have studied at the same University or share similar interests. It is also a good way to find out more information about specific companies. The key information you should look out for is the number of offices they have, where they are located and how many members of staff they have employed
